Illness Experience of Cancer Patients in a Military Hospital

Abstract

|
Puropse: The purpose of this study was to understand and explain the meaning of the experience of cancer patients in military hospital. Methods: The data were collected through tape-recorded in-depth interviews from 10 participants from October 2012 to January 2013. Each interview lasted about 2 hours. Verbatim transcripts were analyzed by the analytic method of Colaizzi. Results : Fourteen theme clusters extracted from fifty themes were divided into the next following six categories ; ``deviated from a normal life`` ``getting accustomed to appearance changes`` ``coexistence of challenge and anxiety`` ``become confident overcoming hurts`` ``enjoy peace by lowering the level of satisfaction`` ``reorganization of daily life for better health``. Conclusion: This study would help nurses understand cancer patients`` life and develop effective nursing interventions to improve physical psychsocial and spiritual care.
